What is an End-of-Life Doula?

An End-of-Life Doula is a calm and compassionate presence for individuals and families, as they navigate one of life’s most significant and tender transitions: dying.

Also known as a death Doula, this role is grounded in empathy, deep listening, and human connection. Doulas do not replace medical teams or take over decisions - instead, they walk alongside you. We offer emotional, spiritual, and practical support that respects your values and honours your journey.

At its heart, this work is about holding space.

An end-of-life Doula gently supports the natural process of dying - helping to bring comfort, clarity, and meaning to a time that can feel overwhelming or uncertain. We recognise that dying, like birth, is a deeply personal experience, and our presence can help soften fear, reduce isolation, and foster connection between individuals and their loved ones.

Doulas also encourage families to develop and embrace the skills needed to care for individuals and encourage self-care routines. We walk alongside the family too.

Doulas are often invited into this space from the time of diagnosis or later in the journey. Whether quietly witnessing or offering gentle guidance, we are there to support not just the person nearing death, but also those who love and care for them.

Ultimately, an end of life doula helps reclaim dying as a sacred, human experience - not something to be hidden away, but something to be faced with dignity, tenderness, and support.

Hi, I’m Deb.

I offer end of life doula support to individuals and families who wish to approach the final stage of life with dignity, peace, and connection – especially at home.

I have a background in nursing and natural therapies, in particular working as a remedial and shiatsu masseuse for many years. I have also studied homeopathy and have a special affinity for the flower essences and the way they support emotional journeys.

My husband and I have been married for over 35 years and have taught workshops throughout Australia in Counselling Kinesiology to kinesiology practitioners as part of their training. We also run a clinic, Counselling Kinesiology, helping couples and individuals with relationship issues.

Alongside this I have also had a lifelong interest in spiritual studies, I bring a grounded, compassionate, and wholistic approach to this sacred time. My role is to walk alongside you and your loved ones, offering gentle guidance, emotional support, and practical tools to help you navigate this journey with grace.

This work is deeply personal to me. After caring for my mother and father in their latter years, I believe that dying, like living, should be honoured with love, respect, and presence. I’m here to help make space for meaningful goodbyes, to support conversations that matter, and to ensure that everyone involved feels heard, held, and supported.

Through simple rituals, honest communication, and advocacy for what truly matters to you, my aim is to create an environment where each person’s unique wishes can be honoured – and where death, rather than something to fear, can be experienced with calm and compassion.

Outside of work, you’ll often find me at my pottery wheel or tending to the garden. I’m also a proud parent to two wonderful adult children and a delighted grandparent to three much-loved grandchildren.
